Hey, all - so the big day has arrived. Here is a quick summary of the environmental issues and ballot measures I've covered, to help you be a highly informed voting citizen:
California Props
NO on 90, the "Eminent Domain" Attack on the Environment
YES on 87, Alternative Energy Research
YES on 84, the Water and Park Protection Act
As Republican governors go, Arnold Schwarzenegger is better than most for the environment. In fact, his global warming pact has made him a leader in the nation. However, his overall record is still somewhat spotty. A few years ago, when I first became interested enough in environmental politics to actually tear articles out of the LA Times and put them in a manila folder, I tore an article about a man who, as State Treasurer, was taking unusual steps to help the environment, launching a "Green Wave" initiative to encourage investment in the environment in California. That was Phil Angelides. I'll be voting for him tomorrow.
And wherever you are in the country, if you've got one of these knuckleheads representing you, vote them out:
Thanks to all of you who visit your polling places tomorrow and let your voices be heard.
Oh - and most importantly, if you live in California's 11th District, for Christ's sake, VOTE OUT POMBO!
