“I love doing sequels,” Gov. Schwarzenegger said last night after his landslide victory over Phil Angelides. Which makes this second term for the governor sort of like Conan The Destroyer. Which sucked. That's the one with Grace Jones. Lame.
While I voted for Phil, I don’t hate Gov. Schwarzenegger. I kind of hate his name, because I always misspell it. An entire childhood growing up on Ahnuld films hasn’t made me any better at spelling his name, I always get a vowel wrong. But he’s a moderate in a national sweep of moderates (a vast number of new seats were picked up by blue dog Democrats,) and as a leader on the environment, we could do a lot worse. I worry for his physique. All this governing has severely chipped away at his pumping-iron time. But the people of California have spoken. We don’t want some nerdy not-famous non-movie star “policy wonk” running our state. We want an action figure! I can see the California Democratic strategy meetings for 2010 now. “Hey, I hear Vin Diesel’s gay. Maybe he’s a Democrat…”

.... As a California Resident I must say that Arnold was and is the better candidate for gov. And as for Phil.. He sort of blew the election all by himself, not because he is a "policy wonk" but because his campaigning was horrible and he said a lot about a lot of nothing... The people have spoken and thats what makes a democracy so wonderful, whether it puts movie stars in office or not.

It's kind of true, his campaigning was pretty weak. He relaxed a bit and showed a little charm in his recent "town hall" appearances, but that was too little too late.
Fact is, it will take a strong personality to defeat Schwarzenegger - maybe not a movie star, but the Dems seemed to be pitting Phil's anti-charisma against Ahnuld's charisma, and politically that seems like a fool's bet.
